A Tribute to Harry Sorensen 1929-2012
2 January 2013
Harry Sorensen MBE AO
The Committee and Members of Lords Taverners (WA) remember with affection the major contribution Harry made to our organisation as Secretary and Newsletter Editor. You will also have seen his regular articles in the LT National Magazine and the Western Cricketer.
Harry was a Director of the Perth Building Society which grew under his leadership to become the Challenge Bank. He was a prominent member of Rotary and a World President of the international body for Building Societies. He was prominent in the funding of sport through Healthways and his work on the Organising Committee for the Commonwealth Games in Perth in 1962 led to the award of the MBE. Harry became a Chancellor of Curtin University where he was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Technology and for which he was recognised as an Officer of the Order of Australia.
We recall an d admire his achievements but will miss his cheerful enthusiasm for charitable work epitomised by the goals of Lords Taverners.
